miss.

My friend called me the other day. BTW, she is slightly older than me, and not married ..

Her : Oooi..

Me : Yes Madam Low. How can i help you?

Her : You call who madam?

Me : You la.

Her : Excuse me. Madam is for woman who are married ok?

Me : Ya meh? But you old already worr .. still expect people to call you 'Miss' meh? Or you want me to call you 'Old Miss' ( 老小姐 ) issit? lol


Really meh? Madam is only for married woman?
Then what is the appropriate / nicer way to call an old unmarried woman?
Don't tell me ' leng lui' ok ;p

    Madam don't only reserve to married woman though. Some headmistresses aren't married, but people still call them madam.

  4. Most of the time, Madam/Madamme is for married female. As an example-Madamme Curie=Marie Curie, and Curie is her husband last name

  9. Madam is used for married women only. When you are addressing a girl friend who is not married yet, please call her Miss, even if she is already 90 years of age and walking with a tongkat ^.^ No harm to be a kind soul and make someone happy!

    2. Haha... You just don't seem to understand la! You see, when one joins the gym, she likes to see herself as one who is young and full of vitality with well toned and fit body. Calling her Madam is no doubt branding her as 'aunty' and thus excluding her from the league. Psychology, psychology.....
