not-so-schema.

I was talking to a new member after the class, a young Malay girl. We spoke in English at first and then switched to Malay. At the end of the conversation, she said to me :

" Danny, i'm surprised that you can speak Malay, i mean the casual Malay really well. Like i'm talking to another Malay guy. Cos you know la, some Chinese tend to be a bit schema when they speak in Malay. Everything is so proper and goody goody. No offense."

Me :
" Aiya, i was from Malay school ma. Furthermore, ayat penuh is so tiring. Hahaha. "

So, do you speak Malay ... schema-ly? LOL ;p

p/s : 'kecil, kecik, kicik' ... which one are you? lol ;p

  5. My youngest was brought up speaking only English, so when he attended kindergarten, he couldn't speak to the Mandarin speaking kids and ended up making friends with a few Malay kids, conversing in Malay, and then he brought the Malay language into our household speaking Malay with his siblings and dad.

Whenever we are on an outing, we made heads turn as others wonder why a Chinese family converse in Malay?

My spoken Malay? Not too bad la, I am from the east coast ma... :)

  7. From Melaka so mine's pretty casual as well. But I think most of us would speak more textbook Malay rather than the more informal version.
